The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be suing over the South Park episode that mocked them, their representatives said.
This is unusual as history is showing they have a liking for legal action.
The Sussexes’ spokesman said the idea of the animated television sketch having legal ramifications was “all frankly nonsense” and “totally baseless and boring”. They were reportedly unimpressed after Comedy Central aired the episode, titled “The Worldwide Privacy Tour”,
which made fun of the Sussexes and their decision to move to the US for a more private life.
The Duchess was said to be “upset and overwhelmed” by the episode.
It did not name them specifically, but featured the characters the Prince and Princess of Canada, a young royal couple who move to a small town in search of privacy while constantly drawing attention to themselves.
The Duke and his wife, who wears an outfit similar to that worn by the Duchess of Sussex to Trooping the Colour in 2018, are shown publishing a book, appearing on television interviews and embarking on a “we want privacy” tour.
